Council Delegate

Council:

  • Attend all Council PTA regular meetings.

    • ​Only 5 meetings a year: September, November, January, March and May.

    • Meetings are held on the 3rd or 4th Monday.

    • Meetings times are usually 6 pm or 6:30 pm and last for 1-1/2 hours or less.

  • Represent the Local PTA as a voting member of the Council PTA body.

  • Participate in all Council PTA discussions and deliberations. Each delegate (or alternate, if the delegate is not in attendance) is entitled to make motions, debate and vote at each Council PTA meeting.

  • Take careful notes of announcements and the program at the Council PTA meeting.

  • Seek information or ask approval from Local PTA members on matters affecting local units (your school).  Report and/or vote accordingly at the Council PTA meeting.

Local Unit:

  • Attend all meetings of your Local PTA.

  • Maintain a procedure book.

  • Using a Council PTA Delegate Report Form (we provide that to the delegate), report on the Council PTA meeting to your Local PTA members and/or its executive board.

    • A copy of this form should be filed with your PTA Secretary.

  • Post announcements of Council PTA activities in the Local PTA’s bulletin or newsletter.

Who should be a Council Delegate? 

  • The Council Delegate is *appointed or *elected each year.

  • The Council Delegate believes in your PTA, the Texas PTA Mission and Vision, the Goals of this Council and the Purposes of Texas PTA.

  • A positive advocate for your PTA, this Council and Texas PTA.

  • A current member of your PTA.

    • ​Does not need to have a child at your school. They can be a community member.

  • A positive representative of your PTA and school.

  • Be able to fulfill the responsibilites listed above in the Council Delegate responsibility section.

Choosing the Council Delegate:

  • The Council Delegate is appointed or elected every year.

  • Each PTA is different when it comes to how a Council Delegate is chosen. *Please refer to your bylaws, Article XI, Section 1-B to see how your PTA chooses your Council Delegate.

How is a Council Delegate chosen?

The Council PTA Delegate has an essential and very important role in PTA. According to the bylaws of this Council, each Local PTA may have one (1) Council Delegate.
